By all means, Varina should have been able to land her blow. But sometimes, being a teenager is rough. She totally screwed it up.

As the two clashed, Varina moved in with her blade and the Acklay too swiped in for a strike. In a sudden jerk the Acklay moved to defend itself and swiped Varina aside with a powerful blow to the gut that took the young woman off her feet. As it did the Acklay shakily started to find it's own and screeched at her.

Triumph used to "disable the opponent" and using the "Bowled Over" critical as a base-line. (As long as you accept this, that is.)
- Varina is knocked prone and gains 1 Strain damage.
- Varina does not gain the critical, just the effects of the critical "for the encounter" but for this effect in particular it is momentary.
With the Triumph being used in this way, no damage is dealt with the attack.

Acklay stands.

Varina was quick on her feet, like any dirtbag would need to be. Then she stabbed again.

[Mandalore]

As she rushed in, quick to her feet, Varina's dagger found dire purchase and the cry the beast let out was loud and filled with true suffering. However, it was quickly cut short as the life-blood ebbed from it's wound onto the stone floor of their arena. The Acklay was dead.

Mandalore, as the last of the four creature's careened it's head up and screeched at him, slashed the final cut across the beasts neck. With a dramatic thrust outward the blade was cleaned and Mandalore turned to his protege. Marking on her ability, "You have done well."

[Varina Ordo]

"No, it could have gotten me." Varina whipped out a rag and clasped it over her wound. It stung a bit but not as much as the stab of her sword.

Just in case, she stabbed it again. And one more time.

[Mandalore]

Mandalore was quiet for a moment, watching the young warrior. "You are right, it could have. Yet, it did not. You stand, it has died. Take some solace in that, at least. Tell me.. how do you feel, now in this moment?"

[Varina Ordo]

"Angry? Disappointed? Why aren't you?" Varina checked her wound again. Satisfied by the lack of bleeding, she wiped the acklay's blood with the rag next. "My mother wouldn't have accepted this."

[Mandalore]

"Your mother likely did not fight a young Acklay when she was only.." he did not know her age, but he knew she was young. Still, he walked forward. Pulling from a niche in his armor a few stimpacks, offering them without a word.

[Varina Ordo]

Varina shook her head. "The only reason she wouldn't is due to the pacifist regime on our planet."

[Mandalore]

"It is true, many.. like your mother, and many others of Mandalorian blood have been given that disservice. When I was young, I left to correct this in myself. Yet, here you now stand. Reclaiming a birthright of the Mando'ade. The right to challenge and overcome," he said, closing his hand around the stimpacks.

"Feel the pain in your body, learn from it. How it affects you, how it drives you. Remember this fight, what went right and what went wrong. Repeat it, replay it, fight it again in your mind until you can learn nothing more from it. Then, fight again."

[Varina Ordo]

"I got blood all over my shirt." Varina wasn't sure how she was going to clean that out with what she had. "And my new cloak."

[Mandalore]

Mandalore nodded, and then turned to affixing his weapon to the side of the speeder. Pulling up a pack he removed some tools and got to work removing some of the juvenile beasts fangs many fangs. Being very selective about which one's he did take.

[Varina Ordo]

Varina dropped the thought when she saw him at work. "Come to think of it, I've never hunted anything before. Watched plenty of holovids about that sort of thing though."

[Mandalore]

"It is an exhilarating feeling, both the fight and the hunt. Tracking a creature through dense forest, finding it's den, laying in wait for the opportune moment. There are tricks to it I could show you, will show you," he said.
