(D5 LM) It's so coarse...

[Varina Ordo]

Varina brought along her newly acquired rapier, explorer's knife, and a single pistol for this little expedition in terms of weaponry. While garroting an animal sounded cool, she didn't think that would end up going well in her favor.

She also brought along a cloak, goggles, and even her rebreather just in case. Hopefully she looked as cool as she thought she did.

Mandalore stood ahead of her, scanning the desert with two speeders prepared. There he waited, a cape around his shoulders billowing in a hot and dry breeze. All around them the harsh desert was a mix of deadly sands and dry dirt. Fauna and flora survived in this harsh climate, and so it was a prime location for training oneself against some of the galaxy's harsh environs.

"Are you prepared?" he asked, as soon as she would approach.

[Varina Ordo]

"Always am," she announced. Even she knew that wasn't true but she just wanted to sound cool.

[Mandalore]

"Good," he said, setting his bladed weapon onto the side of the speeder. "Mount, we have some traveling before we reach our final destination. You will be tested, and you will prevail."

[Varina Ordo]

"Okay," Varina said. She wasn't so sure about the alternative of prevailing. Seemed like she'd just die at that point. "You didn't want me to get to the final destination by foot?"

[Mandalore]

"It is far, and we have little time to waste," he said, indicating the speeder.

[Varina Ordo]

"Little time to waste, huh?" Varina got onboard. An intrusive thought came to mind, one involving a garrote. Would that have worked if she had brought it along?

[Mandalore]

Without wait, Mandalore took up the speeder and led them onward into the desert. Racing over dunes, hills, rocky plateau. All around the visige of the desert. In the very distance, a Jawa sand-crawler moved into position over by the market area.

Further and further out into the sands they went, until eventually they came into a crevice cut deep from the sand and rock. Within, Varina saw giant walls on either side with large stone markings. Giant statues of faces with open mouths carved into the landscape. At the center, a pedestal with an ancient looking contraption.

Here they stopped and Mandalore disembarked.

"I would hear of any recent battles you endured, Varina," he said. Preparing his blade before finding it a ledge to lean against.

[Varina Ordo]

"Uh, okay," Varina said, looking around. Then she shrugged and continued, "I fought some Hutt enforcer guys, at least I think they were working for the Hutts. We blew them up and then charged inside. I stabbed a dude to death... oh yeah, that happened."

[Mandalore]

"How did it make you feel?" he asked, turning one of the stone pillars as if it was a large dial. "Combat.. the kill," he suggested.

[Varina Ordo]

"I don't know, I didn't really think about it," Varina said, dodgy as always.

[Mandalore]

"Think about it now," he insisted, turning the dial of another one of the stone pillars and deep in the mountain Varina could make out a creaking sound.

[Varina Ordo]

"It was a little different from what I expected. And by a little, I mean a lot." Varina looked around, scratching her head. "Are there earthquakes out here?"

[Mandalore]

"No," he said, approaching the final pillar at the center. "Yet, there is a trial.."

Turning the last, a combination of both dials the ground quaked and stirred. Deep inside the mouth caves lining the walls Varina could hear something, a lot of somethings, coming very quickly.

A reptilian bark came from deep inside the caverns, rushing to the surface ahead of it small Acklay's came rushing out of the mouths of the statues.

"Ancient," he said, as they rushed out from the stone mouths. "Complicated, and a test for a warriors spirit. Defend yourself, fight with all your heart!" he said, putting his weapon to hand.

[First Turn Auto-Skipped, Acklay's move from Long to Short and Varina and Mandalore arm themselves.]

"What?" Varina shook her head and aimed her blaster at the beast. She figured she might as well make it come to her, after all. So much so that she decided to fall back from the beast when the opportunity arose.

The Acklay screeched, reared back and charged forward! Surging forward it screeched as it swung it's claw, the size of Varina's torso, and cut just on the outside of the slash. Easily the size of her the beast was tremendous in it's power.

Varina blinked at the speed. She withstood the frantic blows and then lunged forward, blade going straight for the neck. Maybe it wasn't a killing blow, but it seemed like it might go her way...

As the Acklay scrambled to find it's feet, Varina wedged a knife into it's neck that cut so deeply the creature's screech was long and horrendous but by the end it turned to a pained whine. Without finding purchase for it's feet the creature slashed out with some precision at Varina cutting her again with it's sharp claw.
