Jyrvess nodded slowly, a measure of guilt was buried in the sadness, "Then maybe its time both of us made their deaths mean something." She smiled wearily, "Not much a handful can do against a galaxy spanning Empire, but even the smallest stream can carve the mountain with time and pressure."
With her other arm she reached up to wipe some tears away, "I didn't expect this to come out of a self-defense lesson."

"Me neither. But I suppose it comes to show that new regimes are built on the bones of the old ones."
She patted Jyrvess on the shoulder. "Your father is gone, but you're alive. You remember him, so he's eternal."

"Yeah," Jyrvess's eyes went to the ground again, "I just hope to remove the stain of the Empire from his legacy."
"For now I should just focus on the small steps." Her eyes flick back to the tree, "Like hitting a simple target with out knocking myself out."

"I'm sure you'll get there, eventually. I wasn't a natural the first time I fired a blaster either... but well, I started much earlier than you, I suspect." She chuckled a little and took a step back to let Jyrvess resume her training.

"Father didn't want me becoming a soldier," Jyrvess let a small bit of laughter slip in, a happy memory of her father. "He adamantly refused to let me fire a pistol."
Her hand is took shakey, so she takes a moment to center herself, "When I insisted on doing something to help him and he finally relented, I was overjoyed. Then I found out he had made sure it was a posting on Courscant, in the Library. Still....it was something."
She fired again, and this time it was in a hit.

Raven looked approvingly on as Jyrvess hit her mark without smacking herself in the face with her weapon.
"Why wouldn't he let you learn how to fire a blaster?" she asked, clearly surprised.

"He didn't want a child falling him into the army," She laughed, then grew solemn again, "He had made a career of it but didn't want his children following him. Well child, my mother died when I was still very young."
"The war made it worse, I was still in University when it began." Jyrvess looked at the weapon, "It was more then half over when I enter the Republic's service. And dad had grown only more disillusioned with the whole thing. But he was a man of duty and an idealist. Its one of the bitter ironies of the universe that he ended up hating his profession but felt compelled to remain."
"Sorry I am rambling now. I spent a long time not saying anything about him and now it comes pouring out."

"Don't worry about it," she said reassuringly. "Maybe getting some of it off your chest will help your aim. Literally and figuratively."
Maybe it explained why Jyrv was aiming better now.

Jryvess nodded, she did feel better if only a little bit...
