[Jyrvess Ertil]

"Misdirection is a powerful weapon." She replies as her hand is inspected, "While my enemy is laughing I will simply run away. Or punch them."

Once Raven is satisfied that the only injury was Jyrvess's pride, the later woman would retrieve her blaster. "That little thing has a lot of recoil for being so tiny." She gave her hand another shake.

[Raven Cadera]

"Well, you're holding it like it's a nexu's tail," Raven laughed and unholstered her own blaster pistol once Jyrvess had retrieved hers.

"Now, take a look at how I'm holding my weapon. See how my hand is relaxed yet steady." Since she was demonstrating the basics now, she was holding it only in one hand, rather than with both, to let Jyrvess get a good look. Of course, she pointed the blaster at the target.

[Jyrvess Ertil]

"Well it's easier to say that when you have used one extensively." Jyrvess tried to mimic the stance and grip Raven was showing her....though she did so with both hands. After a moment, her aim was a bit more steady. "You probably held one of these from the moment you could walk."

[Raven Cadera]

"Something like that," she chuckled, and showed Jyrvess how to hold the weapon with both hands. "Just don't be afraid of the weapon. A weapon is just a tool, and not something to be scared of. Whoever's holding the weapon though, well, those are the ones you should be afraid of if there's anything to be scared about."

[Jyrvess Ertil]

"I'm not scared of it..." She protested, "We are just on unfriendly terms at the moment."

Jyrvess aimed and pulled the trigger. She held onto it this time, right as it pushed her unprepared arms up and slamming the pistol into her forehead. "Aggggh....." She stepped back tears in her eyes as her vision swam. "Ooof." As her vision cleared, "Well. That was...." A long sigh, "...also a hit it seems."

[Raven Cadera]

Raven watched wide-eyed at the mixed result.

"... Is this some special librarian technique?" she asked, kind of befuddled at the entire thing.

[Jyrvess Ertil]

"...maybe." She rubbed the red blaster shaped mark on her forehead, "No one ever said the way of the librarian was without pain," Jyrvess managed a weak smile, "But I doubt they ever expected it to be from smacking yourself with a gun."

[Raven Cadera]

"Maybe you need to work on your upper body strength, since you don't seem very good at keeping your arms or the weapon steady," Raven remarked thoughtfully.

"What's your training regiment like?"

[Jyrvess Ertil]

Jyrvess rubbed the back of her head, "Well I keep myself in a reasonable state of fitness."

"But I mean...well I don't really workout to improve my strength. I'm more a thinker then a fighter."

[Raven Cadera]

"Nothing wrong with building up some muscles, even if you're not doing it to become ripped. Might make it easier for you to keep the blaster steady," she chuckled, as she was still trying to understand why Jyrvess was hurting herself so much during target practice.

Using her own blaster, Raven once more showed Jyrvess the proper grip with two hands. Raven herself often used one hand for shooting, but for this student it was best to stick with the basics.

"Find a good footing. Don't lock your knees, just keep them slightly bent. That way you can also move quickly if need be after your shot." Raven took her time to show a basic stance, letting Jyrvess mimic her.

"Same with your arms, when you're ready to shoot you extend your arms, but don't lock them. A slight bend in the elbow is good, since it allows your body to absorb the recoil better. Normally blasters don't have a lot of recoil, at least not compared to slug-throwers. Keep your shoulders square and facing the target, and lean forward a little - it helps offset the change in balance."

After Jyrvess would find her position, Raven nodded and aimed at the target herself. "Then, we're ready to shoot. See my index-finger here? You want the center of the first part of your index finger to come in contact with the entire trigger. If you're off-center, it's easy for the blaster to pull or push to the sides. Once you got that, you press the trigger."

She let Jyrvess see the entire process clearly, and then Raven demonstrated with a clean shot at their target.

Using the 2 Advantages to give Jyrvess a Boost on her next try.

[Jyrvess Ertil]

Again Jyrvess tried to mimic her tutor's stance. She aimed slowly, taking her time and trying to focus more on her stance then hitting. Finally the blaster fired and she still wasn't handling the recoil well...but Jyrvess didn't drop it or smack herself. In fact by stance she did pretty well.

"Well....that felt more natural at least." She remarked as her gaze was focused on the target. "I broke my hit record though," Jyrvess remarked slyly, eyes on the smoking mark just outside of the target.

[Raven Cadera]

"So it seems... but at least you didn't hurt yourself anymore. And well, that's a good start." She gave the librarian a solid pat on the shoulder. "They didn't teach you this stuff when you got that fancy license of yours?"

[Jyrvess Ertil]

"Four years ago." Jyrvess chuckled, "I...wasn't ever really required to use any of that sort of training."

"My duties were..." She blinked and then just shrugged, "Research oriented, cataloging data, and finding information others would want, you know library stuff."

[Raven Cadera]

"Now, you're trying to make that sound horribly dull and unassuming, but I figure you did more than just push paper behind a desk, Jyrvess. I'm not as smart as you are, but I ain't dumb."

[Jyrvess Ertil]

Jyrvess sighs, "I worked for the Library of the Republic." She smiles like a child whose been caught, "And my duties were exactly as I said. Research - enemies of the Republic, catalog - their methods and means, and find information that would help the Republic's Generals make decisions. War generates a lot of information and misinformation...and people were needed to sift through it."

She rubs the back of her neck.

[Raven Cadera]

"I see..." she mused. "Guess that explains how you're familiar with a Mandalorian clan name, even one as small as mine."

Raven held up a hand. "Don't worry, I won't tell anyone since it seems like something you're keeping secret."

[Jyrvess Ertil]

Jyrvess shrugs, "Why do you think I asked you why you didn't follow the bulk of your people. I am not up on my Mandolarian politics like I once was....but..."

"I figure I owe you something after this...and it wouldn't be fully fair to hide my skills." She laughs a little, "Though you can tell I was not much good in the field."

[Raven Cadera]

"Well I certainly hope you won't have to put these very dangerous shooty-skills of yours to use any time soon," she teased with a low chuckle in her voice.

"As for Mando politics..." Raven sighed, putting her hands on her hips as she tried to find the answer, "it's complicated? It's always been complicated, hasn't it. Not everyone approves of Gar Saxon licking the boots of the Empire, it goes against so much of our history and way of life..."

[Jyrvess Ertil]

"Your people have never been one for the easy way." Jyrvess nods and tries another aimed shot. Again she maintains hold of the blaster but the shot goes even wilder this time. "Well...not dropping the gun is an improvement...maybe we should go back to drawing targets around where I hit."

"To be fair...politics in general have been complicated as of late," She shrugs, "Regime changes do that, a lot of people line up to lick boots like your Saxon. And those that don't well... Last night shows what happens, peaceful intent or not."

[Raven Cadera]

"That why you out here in the Outer Rim? Because you're not... falling in-line with the rest in the new regime?" Raven guessed out loud, though she was certain she knew the answer already.
