Whistling Tybalt walked through the bright and ornate halls of his fathers tower. A monument to the great Pokosta name, and Tybalt, the son who was chosen to take it all from him when his father passed on. 'My Legacy will live on through you. Do not disappoint me,' Tybalt still remembered the day his father first said that to him. Barely seven years old, freshly adopted and that was the expectation placed on him. For so many years after that, because of that, afraid of the consequence he tried to be a good son. Was only a few years ago he gave up on that idea...
"Hey Dad," he sneered, walking into the office with the long desk. Walking up to one of the security officers standing to the right. Staring him down. Smirking as he looked to him. How little that man knew.
"Tybalt," Chos said, his tone authoritative. A father displeased with his son. "You have a lot to explain yourself for," Chos said, directing his son to a seat at the far end of the table by him, by the window.
Tybalt stepped up to the one he was smirking at, they didn't move, he laughed. Stepping away as he brushed across his nose with his thumb he looked to the other two security officers in the room, one the acting head of security. Taking the seat Tybalt wasn't slow to grabbing one of the assorted glasses, always sat on the table, and the sleek steel container that held the wine. A wine so old and fine that simply possessing it would increase the property values of most homes in the slums to a point that none could afford to live there.
"Never have I been more ashamed of you, son," he said, crossing his arms and turning away toward the window. Looking out over the city as the last vestiges of light faded and the night truly came.
"What did I do this time? Piss off one of your work contacts?" he laughed, pouring the wine into the glass carefully as to not spill a drop.
"You killed a young man," Choss informed. "Not just any young man.. but the son of the head of my security. You probably did not know who he was, the boy who took exception to your antics in the club that night, but.. no.. you could not leave it at that could you? Going so far as to have the boy killed for what.. pride?" he asked, his tone didn't imply he wanted an answer.
"You always said to protect the family na-"
"Silence," Chos interjected. "You have made a mockery of me for the last time, Tybalt. Tonight.. I am confining you to your room and on the morrow I shall enter discussions with my legal team to have you removed from the chain of succession. I have some years yet. Perhaps.. perhaps if I begin again now I will have time to correct my mistakes."
"Father! You can't!" Tybalt protested, forgetting the glass he stood from his chair.
"I can and will, now sit down," he said, the security officer Tybalt squared off against stepping forward to reinforce Chos' words.
Tybalt behaved and sat, whined, "B-but father! Please," he begged, the whine present and notable, "I'll correct any wrong. I promise. Just.. just give me another chance," he slid forward off his chair, kneeling before Chos who looked down to him from above.
Chos, seeing the pain in his adopted sons eyes felt nothing but rage at how pathetic he looked, "How could I not have seen this weakness sooner? How you beg like a commoner for your wallet. How you do not hold yourself higher, with dignity. I.. am ashamed that I had not recognized my poor training sooner. You have shamed me, Tybalt. That is not something I will forgive. For the next boy I train I will have to be certain I am stricter.. guide him better.." he began to think to himself. Signaling for his men to collect Tybalt and do as he previously ordered. The man he intimidated and the acting chief of security approached him from behind as the other man went to prepare the door.
When the man he intimidated put his hand on his shoulder he rolled out of it and flew to his feet, "YOU CAN'T DO THIS!" he screamed.
Restrained by the same man, Tybalt was held back. Chos then turned around and approached the man who was once his son. "You will no longer be a Pokosta, come the morning. Whatever you are.." he shook his head, "I no longer care," he said turning away again. Looking out to the city to find his calm somewhere in the vast space above all others.
A blaster shot went off.
"What is the meaning of-" what Chos found when he turned around stunned him to silence. The man who'd put his hand on Tybalt lay dead on the floor, and the smoking blaster? That wasn't in his sons hand, it was in the acting chief of security's. At the back the other guard locked the door and stood in front of it.
"I.. explain yourself!" he demanded but the man didn't even register Chos had said anything, far as he could tell. All the man did was look to Tybalt who was standing quite confidently for a man who'd just been on his knees crying, begging for his inheritance back.
"I tried Father," Tybalt said, grinning as he looked to the acting chief. "I really tried."
"Tybalt?" Chos asked, his voice trembling.
Leaning forward he kissed the acting chief, putting his hand around to grab the back of his neck, the man kissed him back in return. Once they parted Tybalt was offered the blaster which he took by pulling it downward. Turning around he checked out the blaster, messed with the different parts of it.
"You see father," Tybalt said, "I was only trying to save your life.. it was a shame, honestly, I probably should have tried harder," he laughed, "that was perhaps the worst performance of my life. Tybalt laughed, looking to the acting chief, "I mean, did you even believe me?" he asked, and the man replied, "No, sir."
"See? Even he could tell it was all a big joke?" he laughed and approached his father. Putting a hand to the side of his fathers head, patting him. "Don't worry. You didn't lose much time.. I was planning to do it during the funeral but seems your chief of security really likes handling all his family arrangements on his own. Real shame he wasn't here to uh.." he looked back at the corpse on the ground, "vet your guards," Tybalt and the other two guards laughed, notably they laughed after Tybalt.
"Tybalt I-I-I," Chos stammered.
"Tybalt, I'm so sorry, I didn't mean any of it!" Tybalt said mockingly, his expression turned dark as he stepped right into his fathers personal space. Pulling him forward by the hand he had on the side of his fathers face so that they were eye to eye. "I'm changing the family name," he smiled wild before the blaster went off, shooting his father in the stomach.
Chos groaned and whined as he went to the floor, Tybalt executed him with another blast.
Standing over his fathers corpse Tybalt looked down, how disgusting of a man Chos was. Casting aside the blaster on his fathers corpse Tybalt went to retrieve the wine. Picking it up with an elegant hand he sipped it while waving the acting chief to follow behind him. Walking to the window Tybalt stepped over his fathers corpse careful not to spill the wine and looked out the window over the city. As his father had done so many times before him.
In the window he saw the acting chief come up behind him, putting his hands onto Tybalt's shoulders and massaging them gently. Tybalt's pensive look turned to a smile as he turned around and with his free hand tugged the tie the acting chief wore. Leaning in Tybalt kissed him. All the while putting his left hand on the mans shoulder and breaking the kiss by pushing him down onto his knee's. Looking to the glass in his hand Tybalt swirled the wine, shifting how he stood.
With a delicate hand he watched as he poured the liquid diamonds onto the floor in a slowly. Watching every last drop fall as it landed just in front of his fathers vacant face.
