Re: Stranger in a Strange Land (D10 Late Morning)
Jyrvess was shown the bunk that would be hers to sleep in, the armory where she could put her... well meager weapons and armor.
"You might not be Mando'ade, but you're part of the group, in a way. A place to belong," she squeezed the woman's shoulder, "and you're my friend. No harm will come to you here. Well, maybe some bruises, but no harm." Raven chuckled warmly.
And that Mando'a was a language that had developed to be easy to pick up and easy to learn for adult recruits, Raven was sure someone as smart as Jyrvess would learn it easily.
"Just be prepared to get many lessons in other things than just language. The others will probably want to test you, your wits as well as your physical prowess." There was a small grin. "You probably have some experience with how soldiers can be?"

"Most of the soldiers I knew were..." Jyrvess grimaced, "Well less warriors and more cold professionals. The various Republic commando units and their successors...Storm Commandos, Death Troopers, and other such units. Operations handled most of that work, some of them were...the most unpleasant sort of people. Also not the sort to deal with me outside of formal briefings."
She winced as well, already imagining a few impromptu sparing sessions. "I expected as much, though I think they will find more challenge in the former then the later. I'm also sure some of them will actually do it from some sense of altruism, toughen up the poor outsider so she can handle a fight. Of course a few will do it for the fun of it."

"Something like that," Raven laughed, glad that Jyrvess seemed to understand, but she was serious soon enough as she considered these Imperial troopers... and how different they must be from Mandalorians. It's not that most Mandalorians weren't considered cold-blooded killers by many, and some were. But she wondered which category Jyrvess would find her and the Mandos to be.
"Never be afraid to stand up for yourself though - you'll find more respect in saying no than to meekly go along with anything they'll try to put you through. And don't be afraid to look us in the eyes. Or rather, the visor for most of us. For us, that's good manners."
It was a good thing she already had the experience of teaching Dex, as it seemed she had a new student of sorts.

Jyrvess looks Raven in the eyes, "I'm feeling more confidant these days. I mean....I did infiltrate a Star Destroyer." She closed her eyes and smiled sheepishly, "I mean we didn't have any fights but....still dangerous no. And hunted a Crab. And got into a firefight at a digsite."
"A few days ago I would have panicked just at the mention of any of those....we've grown quite a bit since meeting at the spaceport." Her eyes open and she gives a little shrug, "I've got two friendly faces at least, maybe three if the woman in purple took a like to me."

"Maybe she did," Raven chuckled, knowing that her Sister had seemed fond of the outsiders so far. So it gave her hope for a new direction for the group. "If not, I'm sure you'll have plenty of time to charm her in the future... and the rest too."
The Mandalorian woman looked thoughtful as her gaze seemed distant for a few moments. "We really have come a long way since then. Further than I thought I would in my life... mostly, I've found that there's more I can live for than just revenge."
Shaking her head, Raven managed to look back to Jyrvess. "What about you? You've found more meaning to your life than before?"

"I told you once that I had done nothing but running for the last few months, the time before that was...well almost a stupor. Felt like a life on autopilot." She shrugged again, "And then...well I still have the guilt but it's not a monster to flee from anymore, its a wrong to be righted."
Her smile returned, "I arrived her only concerned with how to leave as quickly as possible, where to find the money to keep running. Ironically being stranded and forced to stop. To come to terms what my past, at least a little, has been well more help then I would have imagined."

Raven nodded, understanding a lot of what Jyrvess felt. "Consider this your cin vhetin of sorts. A new start. New beginning. Who knows, in time, maybe you'll wear beskar'gam and a helmet yourself as one of us," at that, she grinned playfully to Jyrvess.
"But for today, get settled in, familiarize yourself with the enclave and its people. Eventually, we'll leave this place, to find a new and more secure place, but for now this is home."
