Pokosta Evening Gala [Day 4, Late Evening, Event]

Posted: Fri Jul 17, 2020 4:04 pm
by Honor
Event Type: Personal Gain
Participants: All
Timeslot: Late Evening

This is the only event people in the right circles have been talking about for the past week. In fact, the sheer notion that so much attention is being given to this event over the troubles that still plague the cities denizens is a point of contention for some. There is belief that this events popularity is supported by the Empire to distract the populace from their rough arrival with the introduction of a vast amount of troopers only a few weeks ago.

However, Pokosta himself has prepared these annually and this is positioned to be the social event of the year as always. Anybody who is somebody is here, and even those who aren't anybody too. For most this is a night to relax, for some this is a night ripe with possibility. Everyone is expected to dress wonderfully, and if you can't.. you won't be let in. This is high society, and you'll be expected to play the part.

Event:
Many other those here may be present for personal reasons, or some may even be working for another to gather information where and when they cannot. Spy around, chat up the guests, truly you must do all that you can to make the most use of this opportunity.

Rolls in this event will never have any more than 3 Difficulty dice, but you will notice below that both Daunting and Formidible rolls are possible.

Meaning that the other dice needed in that roll will be Challenge dice instead of difficulty dice.

This is because the knowledge they represent is naturally sensitive, and will naturally have dire consequences if your attempt at intrusion is detected. Be warned.

Characters are permitted to attempt 3 rolls in total over the course of this event.
-Subsequent Rolls must be made with a different skill than ones previously used.

Roll Description:

If you want to find out something that's almost common knowledge, but isn't. Make an Easy roll.

This continues the path to lesser know knowledge through each difficulty.

Hard rolls will represent information that someone doesn't want you to know.

Daunting will represent difficult information to attain, secrets that someone might hold personally or other hints that delve into what they might be doing or give you a leg up in dealing with them in the future.

Formidable rolls are treated with the same gravity that might be an accidentally slipped state secret, or just dire plan. Should you be discovered learning this.. run as fast as you can.

As this is a social event only skills that keep to propriety, or incorporate stealth, will be approved.

Approved skills: These are skills with full range.
Charm, Deception, Skulduggery, Negotiation, Stealth, Streetwise

Lesser-Approved Skills: These are skills that do not allow you to roll for Daunting or Higher.
Negotiation, Perception

Characters are permitted to attempt 3 rolls in total over the course of this event.

IMPORTANT:
At any point that you roll 3 threat or more, or a Despair, you will be removed from the party. At the time of a Despair being rolled please contact me so that we may resolve it as it will mean that you will have to find a way out of a sticky situation.

Further: This is where you should only post your rolls, and the usual description of your actions as is typical with other event posts. However, there will be a roleplay thread in which you may take part in connection with this Event.

Varina believed that a party was the perfect time to put her stealth training to good use. Unfortunately, sneaking around a fancy party wasn't quite the same as the streets. But who could get mad at such an adorable vagabond?

The unspeakable truth learnt just before made Fuff too distracted to be properly deceptive in spying on another conversation...

And as he became a bit more proactive in mingling, he got thrown out of the party!

Manny was having a good time. Fancy food and drinks, and lots of time to work on his ability to tell tall tales.

"So, yeah, I'm a long-lost member of the Alderaanian royal family. Theodus Alder is my name. How do you do? I would return to claim my throne, but you see, it's cursed." He nodded knowningly.

Roxi was pretty charming, somehow. Although she almost messed it up by burping.

She was *not* very deceptive however. She probably shouldn't have tried to convince people that she was the king of dantooine. I mean, that planet didn't even *have* a king, right? Also, she was obviously not a dude. Everyone knew only dudes could be kings.

Finally, she overheard something *pretty damn interesting*. Only to stare at them wide-eyed as they realized she was listening in. Swallowing the bit of space-lobster that was lodged in her mouth, she realized the situation she was in and shrugged.

"Parlay?"

There would be no parlay. She was firmly convinced to leave.

"A glowing sword? Imagine that. I can't imagine where they got that idea." Solork tries to let out a laugh and walks away, trying to see if he can finally drum up a lead to chase about that Jedi thing. Maybe if staying on the mythical weapon, he can drum up a lead without saying the "J word". No one is willing to say anything directly to him, but it generates a lead for him down the line

Seeing how her wingwoman antics weren't going so smoothly, Varina started tuning out the adults that she knew and tried to listen in on adults that seemed more important. After all, these people could probably afford to pay more than seven credits a week for protection money.

Leah spent the evening first off getting a lay of the land, and listening into conversations. She picked up a few interesting things...

(ooc first roll:
D4 LE Gala event Perception at easy. Setback from snobby meanies: 2eA+1eP+1eS+2eD 1 success, 2 threat, 1 Triumph
ImageImageImageImageImageImage

(2 strain from the 2 threat. Triumph and success for the GM to have fun with! Crime/underworld related!))

With the blending in going well, she moved onto the next topic. Talking to a few very well dressed but less savory types, she learnt about the Hutts trying to butt their way into the city, and learnt some very interesting things...

(ooc: second roll:
D4 LE Gala event roll 2 deception at hard at easy. Setback from snobby meanies cancelled out by talent: 1eA+2eP+3eD 3 successes, 1 Triumph
ImageImageImageImageImageImage

(Hutts specific info))

As the party rolled on, she managed to spot a few that her gut told her might know something about this whole Jedi mess - and something called the Force? She'd heard the word around, and a few pokes in a direction got a slip that was very interesting....

(ooc final roll:
D4 LE Gala event roll 2 charm at Daunting. Setback from snobby meanies cancelled out by talent. Corrected roll: 2eA+2eP+3eD+1eC 2 successes, 1 threat

(1 strain)

by Lysa
Lysa wandered around the part for a bit she wasn't a great liar but she dropped names she had heard before claiming they were associates and such which was successful but drew some of the wrong eyes. She decided to just fade into the background for a bit, something people who knew her were surprised she could do at all but when she was like this it was easier she picked up very interesting tidbits about the hutts and what they were planning on and what they were after on Kamda.

Then she got bold maybe it was just her wanting to feel fear or something she went about attempting to pick pocket imperial officials bumping into them "on accident." No one could prove she was doing anything wrong but after the third minor altercation with a high profile guest she was asked to leave.

Raven was not a social butterfly and felt awkward enough as it was. She preferred to muscle information out of people, not chatting with them. Or as she was doing, more like eavesdropping.

But she hoped to find out if the Empire were bringing in any of their allied Mandalorians here... if that Saxon scum from a weeks ago had called in any friends. Or worse. And if the Empire was making any particular inquires into a secret enclave that totally didn't exist at all. No siree.

Nazora was there... but that was about it. He mingled, he talked, and he learned nothing interesting. He had some nice traditional Arkanian clothing that he'd picked up for unofficial KSF functions that required fancier dress, as all officers are expected to have something, but it wasn't impressive or unimpressive in this crowd. And so he didn't stand out.

by Ters Tii
Moved by forces he barely understood, Ters Tii found himself first in Pokosta's circle of wealthy friends. The glitterati often made time for judges out of enlightened self-interest, and many of the humans were leery about shunning a Kel Dor--even a noted liberal--and risk a slight to Pokosta at his own event. Discussion had wafted around the state of the galaxy, and even on backwater Kamda, there were those who knew things of interest about the Imperials.

He began with rather average small talk among these high rollers...

D4 Gala Event: Charm/Presence--Average difficulty: 1eP+2eA+2eD 1 success

...but found one who was able to make an introduction to a member of the Admiral's staff. Here was the true goldmine, and here Ters Tii found the strangest sensation of closeness with this officer, able to feel an intense empathy accompanied by a feeling of mild euphoria.

But as it continued, he grew in mastery until he could play this staff officer like a fine Double Jocimer. If only the staff officer had been alone!

After spending quite some time staring out the window, Jaxom finally began to mingle. He put on his best smile and tried to make friends.

"I'm sorry sir, I didn't realize she was with you."

After a few awkward conversations, he found it easier to eavesdrop. When he wanted more significant information, it was best to simply lie.
