Playing Doctor [D8 MM]

[Tosath Nazora]

Tosath sat in his apartment with a viewscreen on, watching a news broadcast. It was all filtered by the Imperials now, but he could extrapolate some facts from the slanted reporting. He waited for the girl to arrive, having given her his address and let her know to come by now that he had taken her on as a student.

Arriving a scruffy looking young Twi'lek girl waited outside the door. Affixing her head-wrap she checked her clothes for any imperfections she could fix, and then slid her backpack around to do the same. A light green tone to her skin she wore glasses that had a partially broken left lens. With rough patch-work pants and shoes that were a little too big on one and a little too small on the other. Pulling a broken bottle taped together out of her pack she got some sort of liquid out of it and then rubbed it over both her hands. Giving them a sniff she was happy and content with it and replaced the bottle in her bag. Making her presence then known at the door. Humming softly to herself.

Moving to answer it, he opened the door and invited her in. "Kowara, I'm glad to see you. Come on in and make yourself comfortable," he says with a warm smile.

The apartment is immaculately clean and sparsely decorated. Everything seemed sturdy but well worn, like he was one to save his money and thus take good care of all of his stuff.

Closing the door behind her, he invited her to sit with a wave of his hand. "You can put your bag by mine next to the door if you like."

"Thank you Dr. Nazora," she said, a humble tone to her voice. Putting her bag down by his she also knelt down and removed her shoes. Careful and precise was her manner. It was the thing that probably drew him to her at first, when he noticed her getting bullied for it at the relief center one day.

He turned off the viewscreen before turning back to her. He did appreciate the level of care she showed in most of her actions so far. That and her sharp mind were what made for a skilled doctor. There are plenty of people out there, especially on this world, that have the heart and kindness that a person can appreciate in a healer, but it didn't always come with the temperament one needed. Being able to resist the urge to bite back or rush into action led to mistakes that weren't acceptable in his line of work.

"Have you eaten yet today?" He had a small snack earlier, to tide him over for a bit, but didn't want to assume her level of hunger.

"Yes," she reported but then thought on it, "But, I think it wasn't enough. I read something that said I should be having at least a quarter or even half a portion more, but I haven't checked how good of a source it is. They didn't let me into the library today because my shirt got another hole in it.." she said with a tinge of sadness.

"Those recommendations are for basic survival, not for good health," he says as he moves to the kitchen. He opens his refrigerator. "I can make us omelettes, parfaits, fruit smoothies or oatmeal. What would you prefer?"

"Cooking is one of my guilty pleasures, something I enjoy. You'll get the opportunity to try all of them and more eventually. I don't eat a lot, but when you are making small servings you can really focus on quality."

"What are you most looking forward to having Dr. Nazora?" she asked, walking up over by the fridge when she was done fiddling with her things. "All of them sound much more.. well, I don't think I've eaten any one of those other than the oatmeal before!"

"I have the ingredients for all of them, so I will have each one in coming days. I got these ingredients because I enjoy all of them," he replies with a chuckle. "How about I make omelettes, they're pretty quick to make."

He pulls out the ingredients and begins working, dicing vegetables, using what seemed like an egg substitute, and using a variety of seasonings.

"I am not strictly a vegetarian, but the majority of my diet is," he explains. "There are mixes of enzymes, amino acids and proteins that you get from meat sources that aren't readily available in plant matter, so I like to include them in my diet ever few days. But I enjoy changing up the food that I get regularly and eating diverse meals. Variety can be as useful as a replacement for spices as it is for an inclusive diet."

His hands worked steadily but quickly, clearly quite practiced. When he eventually started cooking, the scents of the different spices he was using became far more prevalent in the apartment, but far from overpowering.

Kowara nodded, happy with the choice, she went over to something like a couch and sat there. Watching him patiently, perhaps even learning a thing or two from the observation.

After finishing up, he plated the food and brought it over to the couch, handing Kowara her omelette. Sitting down, he takes a bite himself, taking his time eating while striking up conversation between carefully chewed bites.

"If you are interested, I would like to offer to have you stay here with me."

"A-" she was about to take a bite when he posed the question. Stopping halfway through the process she held herself still, and then looked to him with a curious gaze, "W-why?" she asked.

"It would be easier and more convenient for training to have a quiet consistent place, for one. For two, it allows me to make certain that you are safe and healthy throughout so that you can complete your training. I am choosing to invest time and effort to see you succeed, so providing any advantage I can to see that become reality is beneficial to that end. Also, I have enough space and income to allow for it. The couch converts to a bed for any time I have a guest so it would work until I could convert the small office in the other room into a bedroom for you. I don't really use it for anything specific really since I don't spend a great deal of time at home anyway." He continues eating letting her think about it and answer in her own time.
